Why this recording

On 3 July 2012, Paco de Lucía played the Miles Davis Hall in Montreux, between a date in Prague and another in Ghent, according to the tour history compiled by setlist.fm. That night's list runs from « Variaciones de Minera » to « Entre dos aguas », by way of « Zyriab » and a bulería titled « Moraito siempre ». Uploaded as early as April 2013 by a flamenco fan channel, the video shows an eight-piece line-up that includes dancer Antonio Fernández « Farru ».

Full-length capture of Paco de Lucía’s concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Montreux, Switzerland, in July 2012. The undisputed master of flamenco guitar and the artist who revolutionized the genre by opening it to jazz and Latin music, Paco de Lucía delivers here one of his last major filmed performances, less than two years before his death in 2014. Surrounded by his band — second guitar, harmonica, bass, percussion, vocals and dance — the Andalusian guitarist unfolds a live concert in which instrumental virtuosity, flamenco compás and improvisation answer one another. The Montreux performance, source of the tracks ‘Vámonos’ and ‘Variaciones de Minera’ later featured on the album ‘The Montreux Years’, reflects the master’s artistic maturity and the chemistry with his musicians. This capture stands as a valuable document for lovers of flamenco, acoustic guitar and world music, as well as for anyone discovering the legacy of one of the greatest guitarists of the twentieth century. A full concert available in the live catalog on livconcert.com.
