Why this recording

Directed by Alexander George and presented by Rose Avenue, Mixmag and Reprise Records, the film was shot on location at AWE Ranch in California, according to its credits. The crew is that of a film shoot: director of photography Michael Booth, Steadicam, drone, a dedicated lighting designer and a colourist. The audio mix is credited to Cam Trewin, the band's front-of-house engineer, and Marti Humphrey. It runs 45 minutes and was posted on the trio's channel in March 2020.

Filmed in September 2019 in the heart of Joshua Tree National Park, California, “Live from Joshua Tree” is the first live album and concert film by Australian trio RÜFÜS DU SOL. Far from a club set, the performance is played live in the desert at sunset, without an audience, in a mineral landscape that mirrors the band’s electronic melancholy. Tyrone Lindqvist (vocals, guitar), Jon George (keyboards) and James Hunt (drums, machines) unfold an extended, organic reading of their songs, drawn from the albums Atlas, Bloom and Solace. The film moves through “Valley of the Yuccas,” “Eyes,” “New Sky,” “Desert Night,” “Underwater” and the climactic “Innerbloom,” through to “No Place.” This filmed live concert has become a landmark of the melodic electronic scene: a genuine live performance, played and sung live, best enjoyed from start to finish. Keywords: RÜFÜS DU SOL, Joshua Tree, 2019, live, filmed live concert, electronic.
