Why this recording

On Friday 25 June 2021 Jazz à Vienne opened its festival with an "Africa" night shared with Keziah Jones and Julia Sarr; Qwest TV, the service founded by Quincy Jones, streamed it exclusively. Around Salif Keita, the band combines Mamadou Diabaté's kora, Djessou Mory Kanté's guitar, Mamadou Prince Koné's calabash and two backing singers. The chapter list starts "Mama" at 17 seconds and places "Yamore" third, between "Dery" and "Tonton".

Filmed live concert by Salif Keita at the Théâtre Antique de Vienne, on the opening night of the 2021 edition of the Jazz à Vienne festival, produced by Qwest TV. Nicknamed “the golden voice of Africa”, the Malian singer, a descendant of Sundiata Keita, shaped Mandinka music and world music for more than fifty years. Born an albino and long rejected, he made the defence of difference the thread of his life and activism. In 2018, with the album Un Autre Blanc, he announced his retirement from recording without giving up the stage. This full concert, rarely seen on festival bills, unfolds a landmark repertoire: “Mama”, “Yamore”, “La Différence”, “Africa” and “Madan”. Filmed in the Roman setting of the ancient theatre, this live performance captures the vocal power and intensity of a giant of African music, in a concert broadcast exclusively. Production year: 2021. This full-length live concert is available to watch online in high definition.
