Recorded on 10 February 2025 in the KEXP radio studio in Seattle, this filmed live session features Salin, a Thai-born drummer, composer and producer now based in Canada. Her project, often described as “Afro Thai Funk”, weaves together West African rhythms, traditional Isan and Thai song, and a funk-and-jazz pulse carried by a six-piece band. Across four tracks — “Puaj”, “Current”, “Painted Lady” and “Si Chomphu” — the group builds a hypnotic sound in which Salin’s drumming converses with bass, guitar, keys, trumpet and saxophone. The “Live on KEXP” series is known for the quality of its full live performances, and this studio set captures the vitality of global and world music on today’s North American stage. A live performance that offers an ideal introduction to a Juno-nominated artist and a singular vision poised between tradition and contemporary groove, presented here as a complete live concert. Fans of global music, live percussion and Afro-funk will find much to admire in this complete in-studio set.
