Sami Yusuf — Beyond the Stars, Expo Dubai 2021

Live full concert film of Sami Yusuf, “Beyond the Stars,” captured at Expo 2020 Dubai. A British composer, multi-instrumentalist and singer, a pioneer of world-music traditions, Sami Yusuf conceives this show as a dialogue between several musical cultures, departing from a Quranic injunction inviting peoples to know one another. The performance brings together Gregorian chant, Andalusian mawwals, Middle Eastern melodic modes and rhythms, the euphoria of qawwali and the sound of the Chinese erhu, across eight new compositions and new arrangements: “O Mankind,” “Knowing One Another,” “The Journey,” “The Fire Within,” “I Have Come Alive,” “The Meeting,” “The Wine of Love,” “Nasimi” and “Beyond the Stars.” This capture conveys the ambition of a live concert designed as a bridge between traditions. A reference filmed live concert for fans of world music, spiritual fusion and large-scale stage productions.
