In June 2022, as part of the Holland Festival, composer and singer Sami Yusuf presented When Paths Meet at Amsterdam’s prestigious Concertgebouw, a filmed live concert at the crossroads of musical and spiritual traditions. Performing his own compositions and arrangements, the artist brought together his ensemble, the chamber choir Cappella Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, setting Western art music, Andalusian heritage and Near-Eastern modes in dialogue. With a full, controlled voice, Sami Yusuf builds bridges between sacred song, world music and classical orchestration, in a project of encounter between cultures. The capture highlights the meeting of timbres — strings, percussion, oud, mixed choir — and the scope of a work conceived as a celebration of unity beyond borders. A singular figure of contemporary spiritual music, Sami Yusuf reaches an international audience receptive to this sonic syncretism. A full world-music concert to be seen as a filmed live concert to appreciate an ambitious proposal, between contemplation and orchestral momentum, in one of Europe’s finest halls.
