Full concert capture of Santana live at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2004. That year the festival was still held at the Statenhal in The Hague (it only moved to Ahoy Rotterdam in 2006), where Carlos Santana played on 9 July 2004. The band was touring in the wake of the album Shaman (2002), which had extended the commercial revival begun by Supernatural. This live performance mixes long-standing staples with more recent material: “Jin-go-lo-ba,” “Put Your Lights On,” a “Concierto de Aranjuez / Maria Maria” segue, and “Smooth” folded into the closing medley, before the encores “Evil Ways” and the Coltrane tribute “A Love Supreme.” Around the guitarist stands a seasoned lineup: Andy Vargas on lead vocals, the twin percussion of Karl Perazzo and Raul Rekow, the Benny Rietveld–Dennis Chambers rhythm section and a brass duo. This filmed concert documents Santana’s mid-2000s stage band, moving between Latin rock, blues and extended improvisation, a representative full concert of his constant reworking of his own catalogue.
