Camarón de la Isla & Paco de Lucía — 1972

A historic flamenco document: this 1972 recording brings together singer Camarón de la Isla and guitarist Paco de Lucía, at the very start of the collaboration that would revolutionise the genre. It also features the artists El Turronero and Paco Cepero, in the atmosphere of a Madrid taberna. Filmed for Spanish television, this live performance captures Camarón’s searing voice — then a young prodigy of cante jondo — and Paco de Lucía’s already dazzling guitar. Together they lay the foundations of a flamenco that is both deeply traditional and open to modernity, one that would leave a lasting mark on Spanish music. This filmed live recording is precious for its heritage value: it documents the meeting of two geniuses at a pivotal moment in the 1970s, before their legendary joint albums. For fans of flamenco and Spanish music, this filmed live concert offers a rare testimony to the golden age of the Camarón–Paco de Lucía duo.
