In 2017, the Moldovan-Romanian collective Carla’s Dreams performed for the ‘Europa FM Live pe Plajă’ session, a beach concert filmed and organised by the Europa FM radio station on Romania’s Black Sea coast. Recognisable by their masked faces and claimed anonymity, Carla’s Dreams blend pop, electro-pop and hip-hop influences in Romanian lyrics that are often dark and introspective. Filmed in full (‘concert integral’), this live capture conveys the particular energy of a summer open-air show, between unifying hits and polished arrangements. The group, one of the most popular in the Romanian-speaking world in the 2010s, unfolds its singular stage world before a won-over crowd. This live concert film offers a welcome window onto the Eastern European pop scene, often little known elsewhere, and onto a collective of considerable success. Between catchy melodies, careful staging and a seaside atmosphere, this full concert is a fine gateway into contemporary Romanian pop — a genuinely distinctive live performance.

Why this recording
Europa FM, the radio station behind Live pe Plajă, posted this set on 1 August 2017, a few days after the 27-29 July edition. The title calls it a "full concert" for a 29-minute video: this is a radio-festival slot, much shorter than one of the collective's own headline shows. The footage comes from the broadcaster itself, in HD, which makes it an official record of the Romanian station's summer event.
