Filmed live concert by Chance the Rapper at Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival, in Grant Park, in August 2014. In front of his hometown crowd, the then-rising rapper delivers one of the most talked-about sets of the edition. Backed by his band The Social Experiment and a choir gathered for the occasion (Eryn Allen Kane, Lili K, Maceo Haymes of The O’My’s), he blends the flagship tracks of the mixtape Acid Rap, the rawer memories of 10 Day and a tribute to Chicago juke music, through to his gospel reworking Wonderful Everyday: Arthur. The full concert peaks with the surprise appearance of R&B legend R. Kelly, extending a guest tradition begun the previous year. A precious capture for understanding the emergence of an artist who would go on to reshape independent rap, this live concert documents the communal energy, the flow and the sense of celebration of one of the most singular performers in American hip-hop of the 2010s, filmed on home turf.
