Dlala Thukzin — Descendants, Knockdown Center, New York, 2026

Filmed live DJ set by Dlala Thukzin at the Knockdown Center in New York, as part of the Descendants night. A South African producer and DJ from Lamontville, in Durban, Dlala Thukzin is one of the figureheads of afro house and of “3-step”, the three-kick-drum rhythm widely credited to him. Before the New York crowd, he unfurls a hybrid live set, punctuated by keys played in real time, that sets gqom, afro tech and house in dialogue. This capture documents the export of a sound shaped in South African townships toward American clubs, carried by a diaspora and a fast-expanding international scene. For the electronic-music enthusiast, this filmed live concert offers a dive into a singular rhythmic aesthetic, where dance and trance take precedence. A reference set for understanding how afro house has established itself, in just a few years, as one of the most fertile currents of the global electro scene.
