Ibrahim Ferrer (Buena Vista Social Club) — North Sea Jazz Festival, 2005

Published on August 10, 2026 by

Filmed live concert by Ibrahim Ferrer and the Buena Vista Social Club orchestra at the North Sea Jazz Festival, recorded on 8 July 2005 at the Congress Centre in The Hague (Netherlands). A Cuban singer discovered late in life, Ibrahim Ferrer reached international recognition in 1997 through Ry Cooder’s Buena Vista Social Club project, after decades spent in the shadows — he had all but stopped singing. The bolero “Dos Gardenias” and his 1999 solo album brought worldwide success and a Latin Grammy. This full concert, among his last before his death in August 2005, gathers a large ensemble: musical direction by Demetrio Muñiz, Guajiro Mirabal on trumpet, Aguaje Ramos on trombone, Roberto Fonseca on piano, Cachaíto López on bass and Manuel Galbán on guitars. Boleros, Cuban son and guajira make up this live performance in which the voice of Havana’s “nightingale” carries the whole son cubano repertoire. Year: 2005.
