Footage of Johnny Hallyday’s full concert at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in 2006, as part of the Flashback Tour. In his sixties, the figurehead of French rock revisits four decades of repertoire before the Paris crowd: “L’envie”, “Je suis né dans la rue”, “Marie”, “Ma gueule”, “Le pénitencier”, “Quelque chose de Tennessee”, “Allumer le feu”, “Que je t’aime”, through to the rock covers that built his legend (“Hey Joe”, “Proud Mary”, “Honky Tonk Women”). Backed by a road-tested band under musical director Yvan Cassar, with guitarist Robin Le Mesurier and drummer Geoff Dugmore, this full concert alternates ballads, rock’n’roll and acoustic moments. Taken from the concert DVD, this recording captures the stagecraft and showmanship of an artist who had become an institution of the French scene. Across more than half a century on stage, Johnny Hallyday sold tens of millions of records and turned the arena concert into a national ritual, and this Bercy show captures that communion at full scale. A reference live filmed concert for lovers of French chanson and homegrown rock.
