Why this recording

Two months passed between the recording, on 15 September 2023, and the release of this KEXP session hosted by Cheryl Waters. The credits list four station audio engineers, a dedicated mixer, Tucan, and five camera operators, with editing by Carlos Cruz. In the description, the two founders appear only as their initials, J and T. In twenty minutes the set runs through four songs, from “Dominoes” to “Coming Back”, with a six-piece line-up in which four members sing.

A live session filmed at Seattle radio station KEXP on 15 September 2023, this performance features Jungle, the British collective led by Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland, around the release of the album Volcano. Masters of a modern neo-soul tinged with funk, disco and dancefloor groove, the Londoners turn the studio into a dance floor for four songs: Dominoes, The Heat, the viral hit Back on 74 and Coming Back. On stage, the expanded line-up — with singer Lydia Kitto, bassist Geo Jordan, percussionist Dom Whalley and drummer George Day — leans on vocal harmonies, warm textures and a relentless rhythm section that is the group’s signature. Far from the polished productions of their records, this live capture foregrounds Jungle’s organic, collective dimension. An ideal filmed concert for discovering one of the most danceable projects on today’s British soul-funk scene.
