The Funky Meters — NOLA Funk Fest, 2025

Live concert by The Funky Meters (here billed as “Funky Meters 2.0”) captured at the NOLA Funk Fest in New Orleans in 2025. Direct heirs of The Meters, the legendary group that laid the foundations of New Orleans funk in the 1960s-70s, the Funky Meters carry on that distinctive syncopated groove, a marriage of rhythm and blues, funk and second line. Anchored notably by historic bassist George Porter Jr., the band rolls out its deep grooves, keyboard riffs and the inimitable swing of the cradle of American funk. This capture documents the entire set in the warm atmosphere of a festival dedicated to funk, at the heart of the city where the style was born. Across a run of songs, the interplay between the musicians and the danceable pulse come fully into their own. A full concert ideal for lovers of authentic funk and New Orleans music. Filed under funk, it bears witness to the living transmission of a major musical heritage. Savour it in full.
