La Dimensión Latina — The Black Room Sessions, 2024

Why this recording

Recorded in a single take for the Miami-based series The Black Room Sessions, this set features La Dimensión Latina under musical director César Monge, with four trombones up front and three singers, Vladimir Lozano, Marcial Istúriz and Rodrigo Mendoza. The thirteen-song program runs from Sigue Tu Camino to Llorarás and closes with an Irimo of nearly ten minutes. Sound is handled by Venezuelan engineer Javier Casas, one of the project's founders. The same take came out as an album on December 6, 2024, the day the video went up.

Full live concert of La Dimensión Latina recorded for The Black Room Sessions, a Miami-based series of live studio captures where the musicians play in a single take. This filmed full concert, released in 2024, spotlights one of the most legendary salsa orchestras of Venezuela, founded in the early 1970s and revealed to the world by singer Oscar D’León and the hit Llorarás. Faithful to the salsa dura tradition, the band unfolds a powerful horn section, tight tumbaos and vibrant choral singing, in the spirit of the great Afro-Caribbean descargas. The recording, made in professional conditions and in a single take, conveys the cohesion and warmth of an ensemble that carries on the legacy of Venezuelan and New York salsa. An ideal document for lovers of salsa, Latin music and filmed live sessions, illustrating the intact vitality of an institution of Afro-Caribbean music. A performance that recalls why La Dimensión Latina remains a reference for dancers and music lovers alike, preserved here in full.
