Mac DeMarco — Fin de service (La Blogothèque), Paris, 2023

A filmed live concert by Mac DeMarco for “Fin de service,” a new series from La Blogothèque, shot at Le Bar Fleuri, a Parisian bistro, in July 2023. Extending the famous “Take Away Shows” the French collective has made since 2006, the setup places the Canadian songwriter and his musicians in a minimal setting: seated in the brasserie at closing time, they put down their forks, pick up their instruments and improvise an acoustic concert for a few regulars. The nonchalant energy typical of DeMarco’s slacker world runs through five songs alternating unreleased material and fan favourites — “The Truth,” “I Like Her,” “She Want The Sandwich,” “Let Her Go” and “Still Together” — laced with jokes. Mixed in binaural Dolby Atmos, the capture conveys the hushed warmth of the room and the almost domestic intimacy of the performance. A precious document of the 2020s indie-rock scene, this filmed concert illustrates La Blogothèque’s art: catching an artist up close, away from the usual stage circuits.
