Mac DeMarco — Take Away Show, Paris, 2017

In February 2017, Canadian singer Mac DeMarco recorded a ‘Take Away Show’ (Concert à emporter) for La Blogothèque, filmed in a Paris park and directed by Hugo Jouxtel. True to the spirit of the series — capturing music outside venues, in motion and unmediated — the film follows the artist guitar in hand, with his characteristic humour and nonchalance. On the programme: ‘This Old Dog’ and ‘Still Beating’, from his third album ‘This Old Dog’, released the same year, plus a cover of The La’s’ ‘There She Goes’, the very song that inspired ‘Still Beating’. This intimate, acoustic live concert film illustrates Mac DeMarco’s slacker aesthetic and jangle-pop songwriting, a flagship figure of the 2010s independent scene. Far from the big festivals, this open-air session offers rare closeness to the artist and his guitar playing.
