Why this recording

Scheduled in the Amazon hall of Rotterdam's Ahoy on Sunday 16 July 2006, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, Paco de Lucía's sextet fills its entire slot here, just over an hour of video. North Sea Jazz's official archive channel re-released the concert in November 2024, announcing a reworked soundtrack. Worth following closely: Antonio Serrano's harmonica set against the two guitars of Paco de Lucía and Niño Josele, and the vocal pairing credited by the festival, Montse Cortés and La Tana.

On 16 July 2006, the Spanish flamenco master Paco de Lucía (1947–2014) gave a full concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival at Ahoy Rotterdam. This live capture, here in its improved-audio edition, gathers the Paco de Lucía Band around his “Cositas Buenas” album (2004), a Latin Grammy winner. A revolutionary guitarist, Paco de Lucía brought jazz, the Peruvian cajón and the electric bass into flamenco, opening the Andalusian tradition to new horizons. On stage, his dazzling guitar converses with a renowned ensemble: guitarist Niño Josele, percussionist Israel Suárez “Piraña”, bassist Alain Pérez, Antonio Serrano on harmonica and keyboards, and the voices of Chonchi Heredia and Montserrat Cortés. Between bulerías, rumbas and flamenco-jazz fusion, this full concert conveys all the virtuosity and sensitivity of a major 20th-century artist, filmed at one of Europe’s biggest jazz festivals. An essential live capture for flamenco lovers.
