Prince — The Forum, Los Angeles, 2011

Prince live at the Forum in Los Angeles on 28 April 2011, one of the many shows of his « Welcome 2 America » residency. Backed by the New Power Generation, the Minneapolis genius unfurls a sprawling full concert blending immortal hits and unexpected covers. It takes in « 1999 », « Little Red Corvette », « Kiss » and « Purple Rain », alongside reworkings of Bob Dylan (« Make You Feel My Love »), Janet Jackson (« What Have You Done for Me Lately ») and Roxy Music (« More Than This »). Between incandescent funk, soul, rock and pop, Prince demonstrates his absolute command of the stage: virtuoso guitar, chameleon vocals and razor-sharp bandleading. This live recording, also issued on the deluxe edition of the posthumous album « Welcome 2 America », captures the energy of one of the most striking residencies of his later career. An essential document for grasping why Prince remains an unsurpassable benchmark of the live concert, across all eras.
