Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles — North Sea Jazz, 2016

Live Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam in 2016, from the official archive of one of the world’s largest jazz festivals. A virtuoso keyboardist and organist first spotlighted within Snarky Puppy, Cory Henry presents his funk project fronting The Funk Apostles: a stage-built band in which the Hammond organ and synths converse with an explosive rhythm section. Between funk, soul, gospel and jazz improvisation, the full concert showcases Henry’s gift for rallying a festival crowd around deep grooves and incandescent solos, never losing the spiritual dimension inherited from his beginnings in Brooklyn’s churches. Captured in Rotterdam in high definition, this filmed live concert is an ideal gateway into the world of a musician who has become one of the major figures of contemporary funk and jazz. For lovers of keyboards, groove and organic live music, this North Sea Jazz performance is a complete demonstration of Cory Henry’s stagecraft.
