Stratovarius — Chania Rock Festival, 2025

Why this recording

More than a year after the show, a private uploader posted the Finnish band's full set: 67 minutes in HD. Only eleven songs fill that time, averaging more than six minutes each, from "The Kiss of Judas" to "Destiny". The running order puts "Speed of Light" first, "Unbreakable" second to last and "Hunting High and Low" as the closer. The video lets viewers follow the five-piece in a summer festival headline slot.

Simon Janvier, live-sound professional and editor of the catalogue

Filmed live concert by Stratovarius headlining the opening day of the Chania Rock Festival 2025, at the Eastern Moat Theatre in Chania (Crete, Greece), on 26 July 2025 — the band’s first-ever appearance on the island. A major name in Finnish melodic power metal, the outfit led by singer Timo Kotipelto (with Matias Kupiainen on guitar, Lauri Porra on bass, virtuoso Jens Johansson on keys and Rolf Pilve on drums) rolls out its classics: Speed of Light, Eagleheart, Black Diamond, Hunting High and Low. Anthemic choruses, guitar-versus-keyboard duels and fast rhythms define this open-air metal live, captured in a history-laden moat theatre. The two-day festival also gathered Kreator, Geoff Tate and Rotting Christ. A power-metal full concert to enjoy for fans of European melodic heavy and 2025 festival captures. Active since the 1980s, Stratovarius remains a reference of European power metal, and this Cretan date is part of a long summer tour. An open-air capture ideal for a full viewing.
