Tears for Fears — KCRW, The Village Studios, Los Angeles, 2022

In September 2022, British duo Tears for Fears recorded a live session for California station KCRW at Los Angeles’s legendary Village Studios. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith present songs from “The Tipping Point,” their first studio album in nearly eighteen years, alongside synth-pop classics that marked the 1980s. This intimate capture, far from the stadiums, highlights the melodic finesse and vocal alchemy of the two founders, carried by a carefully crafted studio arrangement. The KCRW session illustrates the longevity of a band that mastered the art of sophisticated, melancholy pop, from “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” to its recent compositions. This filmed live concert offers a hushed plunge into the Tears for Fears world, ideal for grasping the elegance of a group that keeps writing broad, introspective songs. An American radio format that reveals the duo’s musicality in privileged acoustic conditions. Filmed in a legendary Los Angeles studio, this live session is an elegant showcase for a band whose songwriting has shaped pop for four decades, from stadium anthems to its most recent work.
