VH1 Divas Live ’99 — Beacon Theatre, New York, 1999

Full live recording of the VH1 Divas Live ’99 concert, filmed at the Beacon Theatre in New York on 13 April 1999 as a benefit for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. This full concert brings together on one stage some of the greatest voices of pop, soul and R&B of the late twentieth century: Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Cher, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, with special guest Elton John. A highlight of VH1’s Divas series, the show stacks up duets and landmark moments: Tina Turner with Elton John, the Turner–John–Cher trio on Proud Mary, Whitney Houston with Mary J. Blige, and the collective finale on I’m Every Woman. The recording conveys the splendour, vocal virtuosity and fervour of an event concert that became a cult favourite. An ideal document for lovers of pop, soul, R&B and grand vocal galas in concert, immortalising a generation of divas at the peak of their art before a New York audience and preserved in full.
