Arcade Fire — A Take Away Show (La Blogothèque), 2007

Why this recording

Take Away Show no. 41 from La Blogothèque, shot in March 2007 at the Olympia, first in a freight elevator and then in the middle of the crowd. This is the version the Blogothèque re-released in HD in 2013, replacing an earlier SD copy whose picture and sound the team itself considered poor. Vincent Moon handled images and editing, Adrien Cordier and Chryde the sound recording, François Clos the mix. In under fourteen minutes, the film moves from “Neon Bible”, played inside the elevator car, to “Wake Up”, sung out among the crowd.

A Take Away Show filmed by La Blogothèque with Arcade Fire, shot in the streets of Paris in early 2007 around the release of the album “Neon Bible.” Emblematic of the Take Away Shows series, this capture embodies the Montreal band’s aesthetic: a performance of “Neon Bible” sung inside a cramped freight elevator, then a communal cover of “Wake Up” that pulls the crowd into the street near the Place de la Madeleine. With no stage and no PA, the magic lies in the musicians’ raw energy and the fervour of passers-by singing the chorus in unison. Directed by Vincent Moon, this document became a classic of filmed live music on the internet and a symbol of the intimacy La Blogothèque sought. Watch it for Arcade Fire’s raw emotion and communal spirit. Keywords: Arcade Fire live, La Blogothèque, Take Away Show, indie rock, live concert.
