Live in New York City is the concert film drawn from the last two of a ten-night run at Madison Square Garden, on 29 June and 1 July 2000. Those dates closed the Reunion Tour, Bruce Springsteen’s first major outing with the full E Street Band since the 1980s. This filmed live concert was Springsteen’s first big show broadcast on American television, via an HBO special nominated six times at the Emmy Awards. The set unleashes the band’s power — Clarence Clemons on saxophone, Roy Bittan and Danny Federici on keyboards, Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren on guitars, Max Weinberg on drums — across monuments like Badlands, The River, Born to Run, Jungleland and Born in the U.S.A. Above all it premieres American Skin (41 Shots), written in response to the death of Amadou Diallo. A full concert of galvanic rock, this New York live capture documents the Boss’s triumphant return at the turn of the millennium, in the arena that built his legend.
