Full live concert of Baroque music on period instruments, given by Jordi Savall and his orchestra Le Concert des Nations at Fontfroide Abbey, near Narbonne (France), during the 2010 edition of the Festival Musique et Histoire. Under the title “Le Concert Spirituel: Baroque music at the time of Louis XV”, the programme pays tribute to the celebrated public-concert series that enlivened Paris from 1725 to 1791. Directing from the viola da gamba, Jordi Savall leads an ensemble of specialists in historically informed performance through works by Arcangelo Corelli (Concerto grosso Op. 6 No. 4), Georg Philipp Telemann (concerto for recorder and viola da gamba, Tafelmusik, suite in D major) and Jean-Philippe Rameau (Les Indes galantes). Filmed in the exceptional setting of the Cistercian abbey, this recording offers rare acoustics and lighting in service of a refined repertoire.
