A live full performance filmed for Seattle radio station KEXP, in 2023, around the Jungle Brothers, a pioneering New York hip-hop trio. Founding members of the Native Tongues collective alongside De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, the Jungle Brothers laid down, as early as the late 1980s, the foundations of a jazzy, danceable rap, among the first to marry hip-hop and house. Before the KEXP cameras, they deliver a live set that revisits this heritage, carried by a knowing flow and an intact stage energy. This capture documents the longevity of a band too often cited but rarely filmed in good conditions. For the old-school rap enthusiast, this live concert offers a salutary reminder of the genre’s roots, at a time when hip-hop dominates global pop. KEXP, a showcase for independent music, delivers here a live of great sonic clarity, true to the vivacity of a group that has lastingly marked the history of hip-hop.
