On 7 July 2009, Metallica took over the Roman arena of Nîmes for a filmed concert that became the DVD « Français Pour Une Nuit ». In this unique ancient setting, the band supported the album « Death Magnetic » on the World Magnetic tour. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo run through a set spanning the group’s whole career: « Blackened », « Creeping Death », « Fade to Black », « Sad But True », « One », « Master of Puppets », « Nothing Else Matters », « Enter Sandman » and a closing « Seek and Destroy ». Recent tracks (« Cyanide », « The Day That Never Comes », « All Nightmare Long ») sit alongside thrash classics. The central 360-degree stage, the lighting and the arena’s stone give this live recording a singular atmosphere. A complete concert, « Français Pour Une Nuit » ranks among the most cherished live documents from the Californian quartet. A reference for lovers of metal, thrash and the filmed concert in a place charged with history, served by a powerful sound and a spectacular staging throughout the night.
