MEUTE — Rooftop Session, 2020

Live session by MEUTE recorded on a rooftop in Hamburg-Altona on 12 September 2020, in the former Viktoria barracks now the fux eg cultural site. MEUTE is a techno marching band: a German collective of about a dozen musicians — brass and percussion — that acoustically reinterprets techno and house classics, with no computers or turntables. Facing the city skyline, this full-length rolls out tracks carried solely by wind instruments and drums, turning dancefloor anthems into organic, powerful and danceable pieces. The result erases the line between electronic and played live music: synth lines become trumpet and trombone riffs, kicks become drum rolls. Captured outdoors in fine light, this Rooftop Session perfectly illustrates MEUTE’s singular concept, which has won a wide international audience both marching through streets and on major festival stages. For lovers of electronic music reinvented with acoustic instruments, this filmed set is a striking demonstration from a genre-defying band.
