Captured in New York in 2022, this filmed live concert features New Jazz Underground, a New York trio formed at the Juilliard School that has become one of the symbols of jazz’s revival among a young, connected audience. Bringing together saxophonist-composer Abdias Armenteros, bassist-composer Sebastian Rios and drummer TJ Reddick, the group champions a living, groovy and accessible jazz, nourished by hip-hop, neo-soul and the hard-bop tradition. The track « 22 » illustrates their tight writing, their sense of interplay and the obvious pleasure they take in swinging together. In an intimate setting, the trio unfolds collective improvisation, singing themes and tight dynamics, far from any academic solemnity. A precious live archive of a rising jazz generation, this video documents a performance that shows how young musicians are putting the genre back at the heart of digital culture while claiming the New York club heritage. The filmed live concert is a fine entry point to their groove-driven sound.
