Nils Landgren Funk Unit — JazzBaltica, 2019

Live concert filmed on 21 June 2019 at the JazzBaltica festival in Timmendorfer Strand, on Germany’s Baltic coast. A Swedish trombonist and singer, Nils Landgren has toured his Funk Unit across European stages since the 1990s, blending the precision of Nordic jazz with the warmth of American funk. For this edition, the band welcomes a legendary guest: guitarist and singer Ray Parker Jr., famous for « Ghostbusters » and his soul-sideman past. Around Landgren stand Jonas Wall on reeds, Petter Bergander on piano, Magnum Coltrane Price on bass, Robert Mehmet Ikiz on drums and Tini Thomsen on saxophone. Together they deliver a groovy, generous set of punchy horns, inspired solos and unstoppable grooves. This multi-camera capture conveys the rapport of virtuoso musicians and the infectious energy of living funk. A filmed full concert, ideal for discovering one of Europe’s finest funk-jazz outfits in 2019, led by a charismatic frontman and a prestigious guest, before the attentive and warm JazzBaltica audience.
