Live session by the Piedmont Blūz Acoustic Duo recorded by Paste Studio on the Road at the Brooklyn Folk Festival in New York in 2021. The duo of Valerie and Benedict Turner are ambassadors of country blues and of the fingerpicking style known as “Piedmont”, the syncopated guitar technique of the southeastern United States. With acoustic guitar and washboard percussion, the two musicians revive a roots repertoire that they frame with historical commentary, intent on passing on the African-American heritage of the blues pioneers. Valerie Turner, a New Yorker with Virginia roots, studied with masters such as John Cephas and Woody Mann, an heir to Rev. Gary Davis; the duo was inducted into the NY Blues Hall of Fame in 2018. This intimate, warm filmed live recording captures the finesse of an exquisite fingerstyle and the truth of an acoustic blues handed down from person to person. A precious document for fans of country blues, folk and authentic live sessions.
