Buddy Guy — North Sea Jazz Festival, Rotterdam, 2023

Captured by Dutch public broadcaster NTR at the 2023 North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, this segment features blues legend Buddy Guy, then eighty-six, as part of his Damn Right Farewell Tour. A founding figure of Chicago electric blues, an eight-time Grammy winner and recipient of an Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the guitarist defends a repertoire spanning more than half a century. He is heard on “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” “Skin Deep” and “I Let My Guitar Do the Talking,” three songs emblematic of his incandescent playing and incisive phrasing. Known for playing one hundred and fifty concerts a year, Buddy Guy proves once more that his live energy remains intact. An ideal live filmed concert for discovering Chicago blues, this 2023 North Sea Jazz appearance documents one of the last great masters still active, caught in a polished television capture. A precious archive for any blues lover.
