Avicii — Tomorrowland, Boom, 2011

On 23 July 2011, a twenty-one-year-old Swedish producer, Tim Bergling aka Avicii, stepped onto the Tomorrowland Mainstage in Boom, Belgium, for the first time. This now-legendary DJ set is a landmark in electronic music history: it was here that the festival crowd first heard “Levels,” three months before its official release. The track would become one of the founding anthems of 2010s EDM. Released by Tomorrowland and the Avicii Estate for the fifteenth anniversary of “Levels,” this full capture conveys the energy of the main stage and the chemistry between the DJ and a vast crowd. Blending progressive house and bright, euphoric melodies, the set marks the moment festival electro tipped into a new era. An emblematic live filmed concert, this Avicii set at Tomorrowland 2011 documents the beginnings of an artist who would redefine dance music worldwide before his death in 2018. An essential archive of electronic culture.
