Broadcast — Black Session, Radio France, Paris, 2000

Recording of the Black Session by British band Broadcast, taped before an audience at Studio 105 of Radio France’s Maison de la Radio in Paris on 4 May 2000, as part of Bernard Lenoir’s show on France Inter (session no. 162). A cult figure of English experimental pop, Broadcast blended sixties melodies, analog electronics and psychedelic textures around the spellbinding voice of Trish Keenan. This session features the original lineup — Trish Keenan, James Cargill, keyboardist Roj Stevens and guitarist Tim Felton — in a repertoire spanning their early years: “Echo’s Answer,” “Come On Let’s Go,” “Papercuts” and “Unchanging Window.” All the more precious because Trish Keenan would pass away in 2011, this live capture conveys all the grace of a band able to turn its most experimental studio recordings into luminous stage performances. For lovers of art-pop, dream pop and vintage electronica, this live concert video is a treasure. Running time: roughly 50 minutes, twelve songs.
