Mississippi Mass Choir — Gospel Concert, 2025

Live capture of a Mississippi Mass Choir concert given in February 2025. Founded in Jackson, Mississippi, this choir is one of the major institutions of contemporary American gospel, famous for its massed choirs, powerful soloists and a repertoire blending African-American tradition and modern compositions. This capture documents an entire living gospel concert, where choir direction, rhythm section, organ and solo voices answer one another in the fervour typical of great church celebrations. Across a run of songs, the infectious energy, the swelling intensity and the participation of the congregation give the performance its full spiritual and musical dimension. Heir to a long tradition of mass choirs from the Deep South, the Mississippi Mass Choir carries on a choral art that marked the history of gospel and influenced soul and popular music. A full concert to discover for anyone interested in gospel, African-American sacred music and the power of collective singing. Filed under gospel, this filmed live concert illustrates a tradition still very much alive.
