Camarón de la Isla — Madrid, 1990

Recording of a Camarón de la Isla concert in Madrid in 1990, an archival document devoted to one of the most revolutionary figures in the history of flamenco. José Monge Cruz, known as Camarón de la Isla, born in San Fernando (Cádiz) in 1950 and who died in 1992, transformed cante by infusing it with an unprecedented freedom, power and modernity, notably alongside guitarists Paco de Lucía and later Tomatito. In 1990, two years before his death, his raw, incandescent voice retains all its dramatic force: soleares, bulerías, tangos and fandangos follow one another with the urgency that made him a legend far beyond the flamenco world. This live capture, with its period footage, preserves the aura of an artist at the peak of his art, before a captivated audience. For lovers of flamenco, cante jondo and the history of Spanish music, this live concert video is a precious heritage document. Running time: roughly 44 minutes.
