Nile Rodgers & Chic — Kendal Calling, 2019

This filmed live concert captures Nile Rodgers and Chic headlining the British festival Kendal Calling, at Lowther Deer Park (Penrith), on 26 July 2019. A legendary guitarist and producer and co-founder of Chic, Rodgers delivers a full set that traces half a century of funk and disco through his own hits and the songs he wrote or produced for others. The setlist runs through Chic Cheer, Dance Dance Dance, Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love, Rodgers-penned covers for Diana Ross (I’m Coming Out, Upside Down), Sister Sledge (He’s the Greatest Dancer, We Are Family), Madonna (Like a Virgin, Material Girl), David Bowie (Modern Love) and Spacer. On stage the muted-chord rhythm guitar — the famous ‘chucking’ — leads a band generous in horns and voices. Representative of 2010s live funk, this filmed live concert celebrates the art of the party without nostalgia, carried by one of the most influential musicians in world pop.
