redveil — NPR Tiny Desk, 2026

Filmed live session by rapper and producer redveil for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert in Washington D.C., released in July 2026. Hailing from Prince George’s County, Maryland, and now based in Los Angeles, the artist returns near his home ground for a performance described as a homecoming. Backed by a full band, he turns his complex beats into jazzy, soulful arrangements, far from the studio versions. The set — « time (a dream deferred) », « lone star », « history », « brown sugar », « campbell » and « glimpse of you » — draws heavily on the album sankofa, released in late 2025, whose title, from Ghana’s Akan language, means to « go back and get » the wisdom of the past. On these songs redveil reflects on mortality, his Caribbean roots and summers spent in Texas. An emblematic format of live music on YouTube, the Tiny Desk here showcases the maturity of an organic, warm and introspective hip-hop. An ideal live recording to discover one of the rising voices of American rap.
