Full live concert by the Roots Revival ensemble devoted to the Ashik music of Anatolia, recorded at the Odeon Theater in Vienna (Austria) on 18 November 2021. The first performance of the Roots Revival Series — initiated by Mehdi Aminian and Ioana Aminian to promote the diversity and heritage of the world’s music — this concert brings together musicians from different traditions around the repertoire of the ashiks, Anatolia’s bard-poets. Around Mehdi Aminian (ney, setar, vocals), the ensemble features Helene Glüxam (double bass), Nora Thiele (percussion) and David Six (piano), with singer Petra Nachtmanova (saz, dotar, vocals) as the Ashik-tradition representative. In the intimate setting of the Odeon Theater, the timbres of the saz and ney converse with piano and double bass in a meeting of traditional music and improvisation. This carefully filmed, heritage-minded recording offers a rare immersion in world music and Anatolian song. A precious live filmed concert for lovers of world music and cross-cultural encounters.
