This full set filmed for the Sugarshack Sessions brings together SOJA, the American reggae band from Virginia, and one of the most respected live studios on the reggae-roots scene on YouTube. A Grammy Award winner for Best Reggae Album, the group led by Jacob Hemphill cultivates a modern, melodic reggae tinged with rock, soul and pop, carried by committed and spiritual lyrics. In the stripped-down, warm setting of the Sugarshack Sessions, this live session prioritises sound quality and instrumental cohesion: guitars, round bass, keyboards, horns and percussion weave an organic groove serving the vocal harmonies. Far from big festivals, the studio format highlights SOJA’s writing and collective playing, for an intimate and precise result. A useful live archive for fans of contemporary reggae, this capture documents several tracks played live, in a polished performance faithful to the band’s roots spirit. The live session is a reference capture for fans of modern roots reggae.
