Live session filmed in 2022 for KEXP radio’s “KEXP at Home” series, with the American duo The Lumineers, made up of Wesley Schultz (vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, piano). Around their album “Brightside,” the Colorado band performs five songs — “Brightside,” “A.M. Radio,” “Where We Are,” a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” and their classic “Ophelia.” A flagship of the 2010s folk-rock revival, The Lumineers cultivate a spare, warm and unifying songwriting in which acoustic guitar, piano and vocal harmonies take precedence over effects. The capture, directed by Steven Pierce (production by James Allerdyce, mix by David Baron), highlights the simplicity and emotion of a live concert without artifice. It documents the continuity of a band that moved from clubs to stadiums without abandoning its intimate aesthetic. A filmed live concert ideal for fans of contemporary folk, americana and sing-along songs, and a fine example of how a stripped-back session can reveal the emotional core of a stadium-filling band.
