Live concert filmed in 2026 for NPR’s Tiny Desk in Washington, as part of “El Tiny” celebrating Latin Music Month, with the American band Los Texmaniacs. A major name in Tex-Mex conjunto, the group led by Max Baca (vocals, bajo sexto) and his nephew Josh Baca (accordion) carries on the legacy of the master Flaco Jiménez. Centered on the diatonic accordion — an instrument that reached the U.S.-Mexico border with German, Czech and Polish immigrants in the 19th century — the five-song set (“Ay Mama,” “Boom and a Bang,” “Herido,” “Déjalo (Let It Go)” and “Como Te Quiero”) unfolds a dance music of love, heartbreak and folk heroes. Joined by Noel Hernandez (bass), Chris Rivera (drums) and Felix Contreras (güiro), the musicians recall conjunto’s closeness to Cajun music and Texas rock and roll. A live capture ideal for discovering a living tradition of Latin American music and the infectious energy of Tex-Mex behind NPR’s famous desk.
