Darrel Petties & Take 2 — BAMA BLAST, Tuscaloosa, 2023

Full live set by Darrel Petties & Take 2 at BAMA BLAST Mother’s Day 2023, filmed on 14 May 2023 at the Cornerstone Full Gospel Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A respected figure of contemporary American gospel, Darrel Petties, surrounded by his vocal ensemble Take 2, delivers a spirited set of traditional gospel from the first song to the last. Carried by vocal harmonies, the support of organ and keyboards and the fervor of a church celebration, the set conveys all the emotional and spiritual power of the genre, in which the congregation fully takes part in the performance. This full concert of about thirty minutes documents the vitality of live gospel in the American South, in its natural setting — Sunday worship and great community celebrations. To be enjoyed by fans of gospel, African American sacred music and choral singing, and for the authenticity of a capture taken in the heart of the community, far from studios and as close as possible to collective emotion.
