John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension — Montreux Jazz Festival, 2022

Live filmed concert of British guitarist John McLaughlin and his band The 4th Dimension at the 2022 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. A pioneer of jazz-fusion since the Mahavishnu Orchestra and his work with Miles Davis, McLaughlin delivers a full show of some fourteen segments, from « Kiki » to « El Hombre Que Sabía », including a spirited reading of Pharoah Sanders’ « The Creator Has a Master Plan ». The leader’s electric virtuosity converses with an outstanding rhythm section. This live concert on the shore of Lake Geneva shows the creative longevity of a musician who, past eighty, retains undimmed velocity and harmonic insight. A complete, well-documented capture, valuable for fans of fusion guitar and improvisation: every track is identified, the line-up credited, and the concert’s energy preserved from start to finish. An essential live document of the contemporary jazz scene, recorded on one of Europe’s most storied festival stages on the shore of Lake Geneva at Montreux.
